District 423 Christopher D. Duggan (IN) is up for re-election 2024. Prior to his election to the court in 2008, Duggan was a prosecutor and worked as a briefing attorney for the Eastland Court of Appeals. Judge Duggan received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986. He received his juris doctorate degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1989. After graduating from law school, Judge Duggan started his legal career as a briefing attorney for the Eleventh [Circuit] Court of Appeals in Eastland, Texas. He then became a prosecutor in Travis County, Texas for the next 18½ years. He was elected to the 423rd District Court bench in November, 2008. Judge Duggan will be proudly serving the citizens of Bastrop County for his fourth term beginning January of 2021.District Courts are the trial courts of general jurisdiction in the State of Texas. District Courts have original jurisdiction in cases involving matters such as felony criminal, divorce, real property, election contest, civil matters where damages exceed $200.00, and any other matters brought properly before the Court. While some District Courts serve multiple counties, the 423rd District Court only hears matters that arise within Bastrop County.  Judge Duggan hears all matters that come properly before the 423rd District Court in Bastrop County. Judge Duggan also presides over weddings.

He earned his J.D. from St. Mary's University School of Law in 1994. Prior to his judicial election, Ferguson worked as an attorney in private practice since his graduation from law school. He practiced in Houston before moving to West Texas in 1999.Judge Ferguson is a frequent educator of students, lawyers, civic associations, and judges around the world for the National Judicial College, TexasBarCLE, the Texas Center for the Judiciary, the ABA, and ABOTA. He is published frequently, and maintains a regular column in the ABA Young Lawyers Journal, "Let's Talk Lawyering." Judge Ferguson is a Commissioner on the Texas Access to Justice Commission, and the Texas Children’s Commission, and a member of the Texas Supreme Court’s Judicial Committee on Information Technology, the SBOT Court Rules Committee, and the National Center for State Courts' Hybrid Hearings Focus Group. is the judge for the Jim Wells County Court at Law in Texas. He was elected in 2014, effective January 1, 2015. He was re-elected in 2018. Garcia was the first judge of the county court at law, which was created through legislation in 2013

District 79​ Carlos Omar Garcia  has been the 79th Judicial District Attorney. Carlos Garcia was sworn in as your District Attorney on January 1, 2013. Carlos has been an attorney since 1995, and has been a prosecutor since 1997. Carlos has worked as a felony prosecutor for over 20 years- 15 and 1/2 of those years as an Asst. District Attorney under two elected District Attorneys in two jurisdictions and has also worked with three elected County Attorneys. With over twenty years of experience as a prosecutor, Carlos Omar Garcia has served his community by personally handling the prosecution of over 6,000 felony cases. Garcia has experience at every level of the criminal justice and juvenile justice systems, including criminal investigation, prosecutorial in-take, grand jury impaneling and case presentation, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, appeals, and post-conviction matters.
