The Bio of our Chair and a History of this Project

A Plan of Action for the Future

Hello I’m Bonny Krahn, founder of the Face to Face Project. It is a 501c3  Nonprofit that is statewide and has a chapter starting in Missouri. The project has a website and a YouTube Channel. The website has candidates listed by office and by county with a photo, bio, weblinks, and videos.

The Main Purpose

The Voter can look to see who is on their ballot and learn enough to decide who to vote for before they go vote. I encourage them to check the Candidate's Education and Work background. Check what the job they are seeking entails. What is their platform? What are causes they passionate about? If they are an Incumbent look at the bills they wrote or co wrote, ones that passed and made it into law. Look at what committees they served on and what public services they have done for their community. Does all this align with your core political beliefs? Pretend that you are the HR person for the state of Texas. Who is most qualified? That is who you vote for.

Biography

Let me tell you a bit of my history so you can know me better. I, my parents, grandparents and so on were all life long Democrats. My mom worked on the JFK campaign when we lived in Maryland.

Work Background

My career was as an Elementary Art Teacher grades PreK-6th with JR. High and some high school in the beginning. I subbed 1980-1987 and worked full time 1987-2012. During this time I received a contract to write Elementary Art textbooks. Grades Pre-K-6th Grade with TeachingPoint.net called Art's Essentials. Written under my maiden name Bonny Pickens. It is technique based and scope and sequence oriented.  I served on multiple committees with the Keller school district including upgrading their whole recycling program and writing their 5 year Strategic Technology plan. My Space Station design project was featured on their Great Things About Keller ISD Video. My Thanksgiving story watercolor illustration painting project was featured at the Regional Service Center as a prime example of Cross Curriculum Education. I served on the TEKS Review Committee at the state level twice and helped rewrite the Standards for Art, Drama, Music, and Dance. I was able to get teaching “Respect for World Cultures” into the Standards.

Political Background

2004 I first got involved in politics as a Precinct chair and District Election judge over 5 precincts in Tarrant County. It was in response to W running for his second time. I jumped right into the frying pan there and was asked by Tarrant County Elections to report on an Election Judge who was suspected of violating Election Code. Date, time and place like a poll watcher only as a poll clerk. I had to report to them daily anything that appeared to violate the law. She was a TEA party chair person.  In 2012 I retired from teaching with 25 years of service and moved to Travis County in 2013. Was the precinct chair for 105 and the election judge. It was one of Travis County’s largest precincts going from south Pflugerville to almost Martin Luther King Blvd. It has since been divided.

I have served on 6 State Conventions and at one I was elected to the Platform committee. I was able to get “Teachers may purchase Textbooks from any company on the market as long as they meet the state standards” into the Dem platform. It then made it into state law. Also that “Eminent Domain laws must be interpreted the way it was originally written for the good of the public at large not for the good of a corporation” and R’s tacked on except oil and gas. It made state law also. I later had a Supreme Court Justice Candidate quote it back to me. I was elected to be a National Delegate but could not go as it was the first week of school.

I started East Travis County Democrats. Which was one of their largest precincts. I was on the Travis County CEC Advisory Committee over the 100-199 precincts, Diversity Committee, and Convention Committee. Helped work all the public events in Travis as a VDR. Including Diaspora groups showing them how to vote and getting them registered. This included a state level Muslim event. To note I and my Vice Chair Debbie got over 1000 voters registered and during a three day drive at Walmart registered 400. That was a group effort.

Started the Manor Community Coalition to get grants for town improvements they had no budget for. Nonprofit status. Doing good works for the community you live in.

Started the Protect Manor FB group against a hot asphalt plant put in near my neighborhood.

I served on the board of the first Women’s March in Austin. We had over 100,00 marchers and a large budget over 40K.

Began the F2F project about 2015. Nonprofit 501c3 status. So I was managing two nonprofits at the same time. The F2F project started when Candidates kept showing up to our meetings and we asked them to tell us about themselves. It was all incredible stuff that no one knew about and I said we need to get this on film. So we started filming them in Travis. The F2F project had a full board at that time.  We held the first forum Manor ever had with 26 committed candidates 28 showed up. Largest Forum up to the time in Travis County. NBC news showed up. It was in the high school theater which can be rented out for special events.  At the next forum I had in Hays County all the Supreme Court Justice candidates except one showed up. They said I was the only person that lets people know what they really do. I film Candidates at events and forums then share the films out. The Candidates and the clubs are given access to the films and may share them as they see fit. I also make playlist for them to share. County Democratic Parties may use my data off the website and share it from theirs. All this at no charge.

The project has continued to blossomed to statewide after a lot of 10 and 12 hour days on my keyboard. I have not done this alone. Many times people across the state have provided me with much needed data. We have come a long way but still have a long way to go. Volunteers are always welcome for a wide variety of needs.

I have been a speaker at a Dripping Area Democrats (DAD) meeting and Hays Tejano Democrats. Plus a number of times for DFW Progressives zoom meetings. I attended a Mothers For Democracy (Mother's Against Greg Abbott) meeting in Seguin, Texas. I was asked to be a speaker at that event. Mostly County Chairs and the Founder of Mother's Against Greg Abbott group attended.

Last year the TDP found out about what all I am doing and asked me to help with the Texas Democratic County Chairs Association to train new chairs how to make FB groups. I have been doing that.

I am a member of multiple Dem Clubs across the state and have learned so much from all of you. I hope to help them reach more voters with what I do, increasing voter turn out while training voters what to look for in a good candidate. I hope to give Candidates, no matter where they live in Texas and no matter their budget a platform and a chance to win.

This year I got a letter from TDP saying I was considered a stakeholder in the state party and asked me to attend the zooms for party leaders. To also share their talking points.

Recently I had a volunteer say she travels throughout the State through most of the counties that have no Democratic Chair. She said she would post flyers out for my nonprofit on her dime. So I made up a flyer and she has been posting them out for me.

Right Now

I created FB groups for all the Counties without a Democratic County Chair. I post election information-date, time, place and who is not their ballots. (TDP approved)

I am creating County Democratic Candidate FB groups for them to post freely campaign adds and videos on. These need to be on other media platforms as well. (TDP approved)

I have recently become involved with ElectHQ. https://electhq.net/ They are a startup that has a product like Van only a lot better with up to date data and is all inclusive for Campaign Managers and Candidates.  Everything you need to win an election including a custom website. If you are interested I will send you a code to use and I have a video explaining what they do. They will donate to this nonprofit for each candidate that signs up. Contact me at bonnyatlast@hotmail.com.

Plan of Action For the Future

We want to add down ballot candidates that may be in nonpartisan races if they agree to be in the Democratic Primaries. We will not out anyone.

Include CC on the videos. The Deaf Community is mostly ignored.

Encourage more diversity and inclusion of all working with their cultural/religious needs not against them.

Educate Texas High School students on how to vote and then register them as part of their graduation ritual. A right of passage. Encourage them to work the polls with Principal permission and to gain Community service hours for their College applications. Provide them with a certificate for doing so. This will make them stakeholders in the process.

Do the same with College Students. Their certificate will give them community service hours towards their graduation and for job applications. I cannot stress how important it is to train people how to vote in a friendly welcoming atmosphere. They will become life long voters that way.

Finish FB Democratic Candidates Groups -one for each county. (TDP approved)

Monitor and grow FB groups for counties without chairs. (TDP approved)

Have quiet rooms at conventions and forums to film all candidates there and provide a head shot. (TDP approved)

Create YouTube Playlists of national protest speeches and encourage those to be videoed and shared. Fill up County YouTube playlists with their Dem Primary Candidates. (TDP approved)

Create a mailing list for sending out newsletters and obtaining donations. This is just regular project management.

Monitor County Election pages to make sure they are in compliance with Texas Election Code. (TDP approved)

Encourage County Chairs to head shot photo and video all Dem candidates on their ballots and put them on their website. Grow the F2F project statewide and help other states with the program too.

Explore adding the F2F project to the bid list for Universities and Public Schools. For Civic Curriculum. Teachers and Professors are already using it and have asked me to do so.

Please consider becoming a member, subscribing, volunteering, and donating to this cause. It is a game changer for Democratic Elections.
